Portraiture (the stories the objects said)

This is yet another story about the friendship — and it had such an interesting beginning. I met Eoin more than two years ago in front of the big gates of the Trinity college: not that I asked for some directions, but for him to take a photograph. Our conversation, I believe, would not appear if in that moment, in the spot where I wanted to stand, a large group of tourist stopped to discuss something. The unpleasant silence that appeared afterwards was broken with a simple question: “Are you a student over here?” He answered: “Yes, I study philosophy.” This was a certain beginning with no end.

After hearing the answer, that one photograph was not important any more: what was important is meeting somebody who studies philosophy, who is sincere, clever and ready to discuss. Eventually, that one photograph was made, somewhere in-between our half an hour conversation, with our contacts exchanged. The photo story that follows is the story of his, told by the objects he uses.

Testing my camera and lens

My camera took me to the wonderful places – I do not even know where I have been in the research for inspiration. My phone counted 30 000 steps in two days. A month ago I bought Canon EOS 80D and recently joined it with my profoundly chosen lens, Sigma 18-35 mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art. This chapter is mostly concentrated on the very first photographs I took with that combination.

Discovering the unknown

It could be said that my love for photography started to grow about six years ago. In the accordance with the student budget, the beginning of it was Nikon compact camera which served me very well up to three years. Even though I did not take it very seriously back then, I put many efforts in the moments I wanted to capture. More than anything else, I desired for my eyes to be practiced for it.

The story of a writer

In this new chapter (and the new category) of my blog I would like to tell a story about something that occupies me for two years now. The idea was born soon after I moved to Dublin in December 2014. I did not think about it before, but it obviously got a chance to show up after I was surrounded by the new experiences and things to consider. Even though I started to write my first novel when I was only 13 years old, that attempt never got its end – now I even count seven of them! That wish – to write my first novel – was a seed that I never let to blossom, because I cut its buds off each time they showed up: for seven times. That even meant deleting the material made of 80 pages (the third attempt). Why was it so?

My new steps

It happened that I did not sew or work on my designing ideas for more than a month. In that time I found myself very occupied by reading the fashion books and considering the way in which my intentions could go – I let the ideas to incubate – and they led me to the designs I will present in this and many future posts. The feminine shape, the whole-coloured fabrics, sequins, ribbons or the uniquely decorated material will become the whole, bounded by two simple rules: elegance and simplicity. More than ever, I am inspired by Dior – the ideas he was working on through the early 1950’s – and I tried to release such feelings in the new period of my work.
